AWSL Summer 2022: Coronavirus Policies and Practices

In conjunction with the Washington State Department of Health, the Association of Washington Student Leaders will adhere to the guidance put forth by the Washington State Department of Health on April 5, 2022 for Overnight Group Summer Camps and Similar Activities in relation to our policies and practices for summer programs as it relates to covid-19. The Department of Health guidelines in full can be read, HERE

Pre-Arrival

All delegates and staff are recommended to do both of the following before arriving at camp:

  • Receive a negative COVID-19 test the morning of their departure to camp.

  • All staff must complete an at-home test and be covid-free before departing for camp.

  • All delegates will be required to receive a negative covid test from a school or district representative prior to leaving for camp via AWSL provided transportation, or school provided transportation.

  • Any positive test from staff or delegates, means they will be sent home and not able to participate.

  • We ask all summer programs participants (camps and student delegates) to minimize exposure with others (large gatherings) the 72 hours prior to camp.

Masks

Facial coverings/masks will no longer be required for campers and staff. Camps may choose to require masks, however, and no camper or staff should be discouraged from wearing a mask if they choose to do so. Any person who chooses to wear a mask should be supported in doing so.

Isolation

Should a delegate or staff member test positive while at camp they will be isolated from others, and will be sent home.

Vistors

AWSL will minimize visitors coming to camp for the protection of the student delegates and staff on campus. Should a visitor arrive, they will be covid tested before interacting with student delegates or staff.

Summer Program Operational Staff

Camp operational staff (Office staff, Kitchen Staff, Maintenance, etc.) will be covid-tested consistently throughout the summer to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid-19.

Dorms:

  • Cispus Learning Center: Student Delegates will be in dorms with students (by gender), from their school. Beds are six-feet apart, and student will sleep in a head to toe configuration to minimize exposure of Covid-19 in the dorms.

  • CWU and EWU: Student Delegates will be two per room in dorms with students (by gender), from their school. Beds are six-feet apart to minimize exposure of Covid-19 in the dorms.

Covid Testing:

Covid Testing supplies will be on site during our summer programs. Should a delegate test positive, the family and school will be notified immediately, and arrangements will be made to isolate, and get student home.
