Leadership and SEL for Every Elementary Student

Grow2Lead is AWSL’s elementary leadership and social-emotional learning curriculum designed for grades Pre-K through 6. It helps schools build confident, compassionate, and capable student leaders through practical, classroom-ready lessons that fit naturally into the school day.

Grow2Lead is built on a simple belief:

Leadership is not reserved for a few students. Leadership is something every student can learn, practice, and strengthen every day.

By combining leadership development with social-emotional learning, Grow2Lead helps students develop self-awareness, communication skills, empathy, responsibility, and confidence through real classroom experiences and meaningful relationships.

  • Schools need more than isolated SEL lessons or occasional leadership activities. They need a consistent framework that helps students build healthy relationships, strengthen school culture, and contribute positively to their community.

    Grow2Lead helps schools:

    • Increase student belonging and engagement

    • Build stronger classroom communities

    • Develop student voice and confidence

    • Strengthen peer relationships and communication

    • Create a shared leadership language across grade levels

    • Support existing SEL and PBIS efforts

    • Reduce behavior challenges through proactive skill-building

The curriculum is intentionally designed for real classrooms and real schedules. Lessons are structured, easy to implement, and flexible enough for teachers to adapt to their students and school culture.

  • Grow2Lead does not treat leadership as a separate program or a title held by a small group of students.

Instead, leadership becomes part of everyday classroom life.

    Students practice leadership through:

    • Collaboration

    • Reflection

    • Problem solving

    • Goal setting

    • Communication

    • Service

    • Conflict management

    • Relationship building

Lessons are developmentally appropriate and intentionally sequenced to help students build skills over time.

Each month focuses on themes that matter in elementary schools, including:

    • Belonging

    • Working together

    • Respect

    • Responsibility

    • Communication

    • Conflict resolution

    • Positive leadership habits

  • Grow2Lead is designed to be practical.

Each lesson follows a predictable structure that gives teachers consistency while still allowing space for authentic discussion, creativity, and student voice.

    The curriculum includes:

    • Ready-to-use lessons

    • Discussion prompts

    • Collaborative activities

    • Reflection opportunities

    • Real-world leadership connections

    • Grade-level appropriate content for Pre-K through 6

Educators do not need extensive preparation or specialized training to begin implementation.
