Marty & Susan Fortin:
Giants in Student Leadership
The Earl Reum Award, given annually at the National Conference on Student Activities, was designed to recognize individuals for their work with adults. Dr. Earl Reum was a legendary pioneer in student activities. Leadership education for students is important, but this award recognizes those who “train the trainers” for students. The recipients also...
Encourage and inspire others in the field of student leadership.
Enthusiastically share their experience and expertise through presentations to adults.
Promote, facilitate, or create opportunities for adults to receive information to share with their students.
Are instrumental in student leadership training.
Promote student leadership within their state and/or at the national level.
Marty Fortin was recognized with the Earl Reum award at the 2018 NCSA conference in Atlanta Georgia this December, while Susan earned the honor from her peers in 1996. As both Marty and Susan celebrate their incredible achievements they are also planning their retirement together in the summer of 2019 after more than 30 years of service to student activities and AWSL. We thought it might be appropriate to use the announcement of Marty’s award to gather a few stories as we prepare to celebrate two lives of dedication to student leadership. Please use the form below to tell us how Marty and/or Susan have impacted your journey in student leadership.
