Middle Level Team Retreat, Cispus

Held at the Cispus Learning Center outside of Randle, the Middle Level Team Retreat is an opportunity for each school's leadership team to come with unique goals and expectations. Some schools come committed to plan a specific project. Other schools utilize the time to blend incoming students into their leadership program. Still others use the experience to train and unite their elected student officers. The leadership training is designed to increase a school's teamwork skills and explore relevant leadership concepts:

  • Effective meetings, project planning and officer responsibility
  • Confronting bullying behavior, sensitivity to others, school climate
  • Assembly techniques, crowd involvement and leadership styles

Additionally, time is spent exploring how the work of student leaders are connected to school success through the AWSP Leadership Framework criteria: create a culture, engage the community, close the gap, ensure safety and plan with data Student leaders and their advisers also have a chance to network, share ideas and create action plans for the school year. Staff members from middle level summer leadership camps facilitate the retreat. High school student leaders are the Resident Counselors (RCs) for the retreat. The RCs serve as
positive roles models, supervise the student dorms and help facilitate retreat activities.
