AWSL Executive Committee

Student Voice at the Heart of Our Organization

The AWSL Executive Committee is a 12-member team comprised of high school student from Washington State (10 regional representatives and two student members of the Washington State Board of Education). This diverse group of individuals work to develop programs, train students and adults, enact leadership initiatives, and to bring student voice to every aspect of AWSL.

The AWSL Executive Committee grew out of the work of the Student Steering Committee that helped transition our programs from WASC (Washington Association of Student Councils) to AWSL. As we began to expand our focus from serving only the formal, recognized student leaders that serve on student councils to all student leaders, AWSL and the Steering Committee felt that it was important to ensure that student voices continue guiding our programs. The Executive Committee has been critical to providing those voices, ensuring the continued development of student-centered programs that address emerging needs.

Apply to serve on the Executive Committee

Each year, during the month of March, the Association of Washington Student Leaders will fill regional positions on the AWSL Executive Committee. These positions require articulate students who are able to listen, observe and provide input on issues regarding leadership and education in Washington. Executive Committee members participate in meetings and conferences, gathering student input on issues affecting today’s schools. Students selected to serve this one-year term can reapply through their senior year. They will be involved in developing programs that train students and adults on Leadership initiatives and activities.
